Scattershooting 9-8-13

Scattershooting while wondering whatever happened to the great James Garner

Sunday's Summary

My incomplete recap of the week

I recorded this show Sunday and watched it last night (9/2) after the football game. It was a countdown of the 30 funniest sitcom scenes of all time. Like most best of lists I didn't agree with much of it. The Lucy and Ethel chocolate factory scene was number one. That's OK but there were plenty of lame entries that don't belong in the top 1,000 funniest clips let alone the top 30. The top five are listed in the attached link. Here is the most egregious example. The classic Carol Burnett Show Scarlett O'Hara curtain rod dress sketch was ranked #26. That should at least be in the top five. The MTM Show Chuckles the Clown scene was number 30. Different strokes...

Another 50th anniversary. If you are of a certain age you either had a Lava Lamp or wanted one. Groovy!

While cleaning up the DVR I came across a British Invasion Show from PBS. I watched a few minutes of it. Lotsa good stuff and some not so good stuff on the program. This is one of the good stuff. Great song by a great singer.

Here's my review of the whole show from earlier this year.

Now here's a surprise. The MLB TV national game tonight (9/6) is Boston @ NYY. Nice those teams could finally get some exposure.

Busy day (9/8) for cyclists. Lotsa riders on the roads and the Cotton Belt Trail. Only two close calls. One with a car at the Glade/Pool traffic circle, he didn't yield coming into the circle. The other was with a bike on the wrong side of the trail. It looked like a Walmart bike. Maybe the guy was British or Australian and thought we ride on the left. It looks like the Grapevine section of the trail has finally reopened although there is still construction on 26. Surprised to see a girls softball tournament going on at Walker's Creek Park now that school has started. At least 12 teams there.

Super Bowl halftime show should be good. Bruno Mars got the gig. He's a very talented and energetic performer.

Finally the Rangers win after 3 straight loses on a bad road trip. Back home tomorrow against a good Pirates team.

GO RANGERS!

OK, we have now seen the new Carrie Underwood Sunday Night Football intro. I think Faith Hill was better. I know Faith is an old broad over 40 but so am I (over 40, not a broad). Carrie is cute and perky, but Faith was hot and sexy. What do you think?

  1. When it comes to lava lamps there is one that stands out above all others: the gold lava lamp. This unique lamp features a stunning gold liquid that creates mesmerizing shapes when illuminated by its multi-colored lightbulb.
