Scattershooting 8-4-13

by Bill Holmes

Scattershooting while wondering whatever happened to the great Hank Aaron - Sunday's Summary

My incomplete recap of the week

Miracles happen. Catchers rule. AJ Pierzynski hits a tying HR in the 9th then Geovany Soto hit a walk off HR a couple of batters later. Rangers beat the hated Angels 4-3 after trailing 3-0. 7/29

GO RANGERS!

Already? They're having registration today, 7-30, at the school across the street. The little gremlins will be back in class in about three weeks.

Got the Android 4.3 OTA update yesterday, 7-30, on my Nexus 7 (2012). Haven't had much time to play with it but at least it didn't break anything.

What a game, 7/30 - Leonys Martin has a walkoff HR in the 10th inning. Rangers win 14-11 over the evil Angels. Second night walkoff HR win in a row. This one is extra sweet because the Rangers pounded jerk CJ Wilson. Other jerk Josh Hamilton's RBIs went for naught.

GO RANGERS!

It's official now - We Got The Runs have won the Hurst Wednesday Men's D Field #2 League Championship. They won tonight to take their record to 9-0. All other teams have at least two loses with one game left to play. It was a toasty 102° at the start of the game. All the way down to 98° for the bike ride home.

GO WGTR!

Unbelievable. Adrian Beltre hits a walk off HR. That's three in a row. 7/31

GO RANGERS!

Old Lash LaRue movie from 1947 on Encore Westerns tonight, 8/1. Co-starring Al "Fuzzy" St. John. Very high quality production. I'm guessing they spent hundreds of dollars, maybe even a thousand. Still fun to watch. Funny, the next day I saw Lash on Wyatt Earp as a guest star. He played a politician in Tombstone and didn't have a whip.

Looks like a down year for the SEC. Only five teams in the Coaches Poll top 10. 8/1

GO GATORS!

New this month, afternoons on Encore Westerns - Bat Masterson  8/1

I think summer is here in D/FW.

OK, one more old Western post. The 1950 movie Sierra was on late night on Encore Westerns. As you can see from the poster it stars Audie Murphy. It also had an actor not listed on the poster named Anthony Curtis in a minor part. Funny - Tony Curtis (aka Bernie Schwartz) didn't show up until an hour into the movie. Very few lines and with a Bronx accent. Also a one line appearance by James Arness (billed as Jim Arness). It's fun to mine the credits of these old movies. 8/2

Is this a conflict of interest or just playing both sides? Bill Cowher is prominently featured in Time Warner commercials. He is also a studio analyst for the CBS NFL show. Aren't T-W & CBS having a little tiff right now?  8/3

Congratulations to Ron Washington. He becomes the winningest Rangers manager in history with his 582nd victory. They take two from the A's and are now only 2½ games out of first place. Eight shutout innings by Dutch today. Now on to Anaheim to face the hated Angels.  8/4

GO RANGERS!
