Scattershooting 11-09-14

Scattershooting while wondering whatever happened to the great

Sunday's Summary

My incomplete recap of the week

Do you like candy corn? Well apparently nothing else in nature does. There has been a single kernel of candy corn in my front flower bed for over a week. It has not been touched by any ants, birds, squirrels or cats that roam the area. Interesting.

Oh no, there has to be more important news. Local TV station CBS11 opened the 6:00 newscast with a helicopter shot of the Dallas Cowboys buses going to the airport for their flight to London. At 6:10 they showed the plane on the tarmac. Another live shot of the plane/buses at 6:20 during the sports segment. Closed broadcast with a final shot of the plane still on the tarmac. You can see what's important here in D/FW. More pop news BS.

Tuesday was election day. The good news is that the obnoxious, annoying, disgusting political ads, phone calls and emails will end for this election. The bad news is that the political landscape will stay the same or get even worse.

Not happy with most of the federal and state elections. At the federal level it probably won't make much difference. Congress and the executive branch are dysfunctional. At the state level in Texas we probably got a little more conservative and closer to 1814 than 2014. On the upside, here locally most of the bond issues were passed. People are willing to commit money to schools, roads and other projects. All things that are needed.

Thankfully iHeartRadio sent me an email today to let me know that the Christmas music stations are now available. I'll get right on that. Can't wait to hear "Santa Got Run Over By A Reindeer" for two straight months. Did you know that there was Christmas Jazz? They have a station for that.

Gonna be some celebrating tonight (11/5) for this couple after the CMA Awards. Blake Shelton won Male Vocalist of the Year and Miranda Lambert won Female Vocalist of the Year. Imagine my surprise when the Doobie Brothers and Michael McDonald were reunited for the final song. The Doobie Brothers are one of the all-time great Country bands.

Some real oldies for ‪#‎TBT‬. Only nine months old and I'm already wearing dad out. I was a piano prodigy at age two, which was the peak of my musical career. In the wilds of the Bronx Zoo at age three with a couple of camels.

There should be a few laughs from this lineup -

It only took a week. Last Thursday night my garbage disposal exploded. The maintenance guy came Friday morning while I was out. Left a note that they ordered a new unit. I asked about it Monday and they said it would be fixed Tuesday. Finally late Thursday they replaced it. I have two questions, first is why does it take a week to get a new unit? We are surrounded by Home Depots, Lowes, Ace and several appliance stores. Secondly and maybe a more basic question is why didn't the maintenance guys have a garbage disposal on hand? I live in an apartment complex that has approximately 200 units and they all have disposals. Why wouldn't they have one or two on site?

What a huge relief. North Texas has been declared Ebola free. It has been 21 days since anyone had exposure to our three active cases. Finally I can leave the house. It appears the epidemic is over.

It's no wonder that our landfills are overflowing and the oceans are full of plastic.

My reasons for starting ‪#‎SongSunday‬ were to expose some of you to songs or groups you may not be familiar with as well as remind you of oldies that we all remember. This is one of those weeks for a song and group that many of my old friends never heard of. It is a great song from 2004 that reached anywhere from #1 to #46 on the various US record charts. The band is made up of three brothers from San Angelo, TX. They call their music style Texican and they make a lot of sound for three guys. I love Henry's guitar work and the harmony on the vocals. I hope you enjoy Henry, Jojo & Ringo Garza, The Los Lonely Boys, and their rendition of their own composition Heaven.
