TCU needs more fireworks after win

Thanks to Netflix, my suggestion and a sprinkler repairman who didn't show up, there is now another Blacklist fan amongst us. Watched the first four episodes today between a morning walk, waiting, lunch and fixing the gutter. The whole first season is on Netflix now and the second season on NBC Monday nights. It is so much better watching on Netflix without the commercials. Shows run about 40 minutes. I enjoyed watching the episodes again too. Good show.

Is it just me or has the U-verse audio in the D/FW area been wonky lately? I used to be able to listen to most channels at around a 18 to 20 on the volume scale with minimal adjustments. Lately I have had to adjust almost every time I change channels and often within the same program. The range is anywhere from about 10 to 30 now. I've noticed it at another house too where I often watch U-verse TV. Very aggravating.

That was scary. Jerry Lee Lewis sat in with the Late Show band on Monday. I'm amazed that he is still alive at 79 although he looks every bit that old. Seemed to be in a daze during the show.

I watched some of The Voice late Monday. The guest coach was Taylor Swift. It only confirmed my opinion that she is a minor talent with a crappy voice. Her advice was inane and every time she gave a vocal suggestion by singing it was terrible. Every contestant on the program is a better singer than Swift. Apparently like life, showbiz isn't fair.

Northeast Texas can be proud of their very intelligent and articulate congressman Louie Gohmert.

If you use Google Play Music, they have added 15 free Rock Classic songs. Stones, The Who, Pink Floyd, Lynyrd Skynyrd and more. It's usually worth checking the Google Music Store weekly for free stuff and other good deals.

Amazing, Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas is now running TV ads to tell us all what a great hospital it is. They have learned from their mistakes. The commercial pretty much says we really blew that Ebola stuff but we're sure we can treat whatever else you have. We may even save you and keep our staff disease free too.

More proof - my favorite singer, Taylor Swift, was on Letterman Tuesday night. Besides being a bimbo, she proved again that she can't sing. She couldn't sing country and on her new album she can't sing pop. About 90% of the number she did on the show was sung with four backup singers doing the exact same part as her which made it a group sing. The line or two she sang alone was terrible. Rewarding style over substance, it's the American way.

Giants win the Series. I picked an Orioles-Giants World Series at the start of the playoffs so I was half right. That's more than usual. Madison Bumgarner deservedly wins the MVP although Sandoval and Pence had to get some votes too. Turned out to be a good World Series.

 
































I'm going to do this ‪#‎TBT‬ in two parts. This first part is way back in ancient times with some of my early Halloweens. The first photo is from 1948, I'm not sure what I was supposed to be. Next is a clown in 1951 and finally a matador in '52. Of course Mom made all those costumes. Trick or treat.

Here is part two of ‪#‎TBT‬. These photos are of my youngest son's, Matthew, early Halloweens. We start with Matt's first Halloween when his dear Mother dressed him as Uncle Fester. This was at the old house on Cannon. Next he was a Ninja in 1996 and finally maybe a Power Ranger in 1997 along with a very old devil.

 

Here's a ‪#‎TBT‬ photo taken from our back yard circa 1959. It is the woods that turned into Phillips Highway Plaza, later Phillips Mall, by late 1960. It was 43 acres of pristine pines and palmettos that we kids played in for hours, built forts, bunkers, dug foxholes and more. Between the mall and I-95, the neighborhood was ruined. Our house was at approximately the "T" in "CITY" on the aerial photo.

Doesn't anybody check these things? It appears that the Arc de Triomphe imprinted on the 2015 Tour de France yellow jersey (maillot jaune) also reveals another famous image.

For ‪#‎SongSunday‬ I've chosen a song by a group that it often forgotten. We forget that the Beatles and Stones were not the only popular British bands to invade America in the 1960's. For a year or two, The Dave Clark Five were almost as popular as the Beatles. Although they faded after a couple of years they did have a string of big hits between '64 and '67. Here is one of their best from 1964 that reached #3 in the US. Why did I pick this song today? Well, Because.

We walked to Anna's Mexican Grill, Colleyville Texas this morning for Sunday brunch. It was a good choice. We opted for the buffet although they do have a brunch menu too. Everything we sampled was good. Good chips and salsa. They have a full bar so we felt obligated to order a couple of Bloody Mary's too. It wasn't very crowded so it would be a good choice if you don't want to fight a crowd. Brunch is from 11-3 Sundays only. We left full and were glad to have the walk home to work off some of the calories. Round trip was about 3¼ miles.
