My incomplete recap of the week

• Being offended provides no objective indication of "right" & "wrong". It's nothing more than a barometer of your own emotional control.

Yesterday (10/6) while at Southlake Oktoberfest I walked over to the Barnes & Noble store. Quite a few people in the store. There were two guys at the Customer Service counter that didn't leave that counter or serve any customers the whole time I was in the store. I stupidly walked over to them when I was ready to check out. No, they don't do that particular customer service. I had to stand in line at the checkout counter. Seems like an opportunity for B&N to improve. Aren't they in financial trouble?

Having six umpires for postseason baseball games is a waste. The umps aren't used to that setup. In some ballparks, like Fenway, there is barely enough room down the lines for the extra bodies. Maybe we should have 15 or 20 officials for the Super Bowl.

Just saw a commercial for Advil. They now have Ion Core Technology. So, is it a pill or a new chip from Intel?

Finally went to Twisted Root today (10/8) for lunch. Got there about 12:30 and it was not crowded. Burger was just OK. Got the Verde, the salsa and guacamole were pretty bland and patty was overcooked a bit, bun was good but fell apart. The fried pickles were good and the dipping sauce was outstanding. The beer was cold. There were quite a few old folks there, I guess including me. Coupons, senior discounts? Not me. Also noticed that Classic Philly across the street is closed. That sub shop was there for a long time. There gyros were very good, other stuff OK. The long time Chinese restaurant next to Classic Philly is now Crazy Cowboy rest. & bar. That's all for the Tuesday Bedford neighborhood report.

• On Wheel of Fortune tonight (10/8) one of the prizes was a cruise along the Intracoastal Waterway from Charleston to Hilton Head to Savannah. I didn't even know there were Intracoastal Waterway cruises. A beautiful and historic part of our country.

Has anybody else noticed that the TV and radio people have difficulty saying Red River Rivalry? They should have left the name Red River Shootout but that was too violent and not politically correct.

• Happy 238th birthday to the United States Navy especially a very special Navy Commander and his family.

My lucky day. Rode to the store this afternoon. Sunshine when I left home, light sprinkles as I got near the store. As I was tying up my trusty steed at the hitching post the bottom fell out. Shopped, still raining when I came out but by the time I unhitched my bike and loaded the groceries it stopped. Only problem was a wet stripe down the back of my shirt. It was a Jaguar shirt, so a brown stripe seems appropriate.

Wow - Detroit uses five pitchers to take a no-hitter 8⅓ innings against Boston. There has never been a no-hitter in a league championship series. Almost saw history. Tigers win 1-0 on a 1 hitter and take a 1-0 lead in the series.

On the Fox NFL studio show, all five guys have a Windows Surface with it's kickstand in front of them, logo showing. Didn't see anybody use it or even look at it. They probably have their iPads in their laps. BS product placement.

It's No Bra Day and I know a few wild women who are on the loose (pun intended) in New Orleans. Folks, be very careful on Bourbon St. tonight.
